Media Interview
Q: What technology is available to the teachers and students?
A: St. Richards School has 100 MacBooks available for teachers to check out for classroom use. There are also 50 IPads which teachers can download Apps on and use in their classroom. Each classroom is equipped with an ActivBoard, LCD Projector, Elmo Document Camera, and LightSpeed Microphone System. Every teacher at SRS is given a MacBook, rather than a desktop computer in the classroom.
Q: How often do the students have a computer class?
A: First, second, and third graders have computer classes once a week. They learn to use MacBooks and IPads. Fourth and fifth graders learn to use different application on MacBooks and IPads. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders have computer classes twice a week and continue to learn computer applications.
Q: What will St. Richards School technology look like in the future?
A: SRS would like to switch completely to technology based classrooms. We believe that technology-based classrooms are more beneficial to student learning. Technology allows students to take a more active approach in their learning. On computers or IPads, students can go back through lessons they missed or do not understand without slowing down other students.
Q: What is the impact of technology on St. Richard School’s budget?
A: There are so many different educational tools on the Internet, which are free. Once we have purchased the laptops and IPads, students have access to these different tools. Textbooks can cost up to $120 and are often dated. Online textbooks can be updated and are cheaper. They are also more eco-friendly and teachers need to make less copies because papers can be posted online.
